Torque motors
Torque Motors (winding)
A torque motor is an induction motor with drooping curves: it drops in speed as it is loaded, and its name plate states stall (lock) torque and no-load speed. Mark Elektriks developed torque motors as import substitutes in 1971, received the G. S. Parkhe award for them, and has supplied over 50,000 since.
Applications: HDPE tapes, monofilament yarns, extruded films, rubberised fabrics, textiles, copper and steel strips, wire enamelling, stranding, bunching and drawing machines
Materials wound
- HDPE tapes, monofilament yarns, box strapping
- All types of extruded plastic films
- Rubberised fabrics, textiles
- Copper wires from 8 SWG to 43 SWG
- S.S. and M.S. wires
- Strips of copper, mild steel etc.
- Paper covered conductors (round and strip)
Wire industry
- Wire enamelling machines, 14 to 42 SWG (horizontal and vertical)
- Wire stranding and bunching machines
- Wire drawing spooling machines
Range
- Three phase: 3 kg-cm (0.03 kg-m) to 2000 kg-cm (20 kg-m)
- Single phase: 0.7 kg-cm to 35 kg-cm
- 500 to 3000 rpm (12 pole to 2 pole)
- IEC frames or modified frames; one-to-one replacements for imported motors
- Geared torque motors with planetary gearboxes
- Close-tolerance matched T/N curves, so one variac can control a whole ganged line
